A video of painter Iva Gueorguieva in her studio, posted on the occasion of the exhibition Iva Gueorguieva: Recoiling Earth at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, on view through August 23, 2012.

Gueorguieva discusses the essential nature of studio time and the important, magical nature of the painting process: "A lot of what I do has to do with a way of thinking about space and time. You know there's a time that it takes to make something and painting traditionally has to do with this kind of uncanny attempt at creating space out of a flat surface, but its's also an incredible pleasure that comes from it... I find it absolutely just human and essential -every time every time it happens. I do something with a brush on a canvas and all of a sudden there's space… I know it's going to happen and I'm still surprised every time."
